The 35th edition of the Carthage Film Festival kicks off today, running from December 14 to 21, 2024, with the screening of 217 films from 21 countries, including 56 films in the official competition and 12 films in the national competition.
This edition honors Palestinian, Jordanian, and Senegalese cinema, in addition to special screenings for rural areas and prisons in Tunisia. The festival opens with the screening of the Lebanese film Wahib Al-Hurriyah by Iraqi director Qais Al-Zubaidi, followed by the short Palestinian film What Comes After by director Maha Haj.
The festival also includes parallel events to honor prominent figures in the film world, such as the late film critic Khamis Al-Khayati and directors Hani Abu Asad and Jelani Al-Saadi. The festival continues its initiatives to support the film industry, such as "Carthage for Professionals."
